NEW Sidai Camp in Kenya

At the stand of GoAfrica.nl (4B114) is Richard, one of the owners of the new, high-profile Sidai Camp in Kenya.

Sidai Camp

Sidai Camp is a remote safari retreat on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, located in a 2000-acre, protected nature reserve in Laikipia, Kenya. Surrounded by unspoiled wilderness and adjacent to the famous Mpala Research Centre, this new, small-scale safari camp offers excellent opportunities for wildlife and bird watching.

Imagine: 2000 hectares just for you – with only five beautifully designed tents, Sidai Camp combines comfort, simplicity and nature. Here you will find peace, space and a rare connection with nature, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Sidai Camp is the only camp in this protected nature reserve. In addition to traditional game drives, it offers guided walking safaris, guide training, education about plants and animals. Here you will experience the heartbeat of the wilderness. Isn’t that unique?

only 5 tents and in a 2000 hectare reserve

You will go wildlife watching in a 4×4 vehicle or on foot with a Maasai guide. You will come face to face with large herds of elephants, Big Cats and other iconic wildlife. This is Kenya at its best. For those who want to dive deeper, we also offer a selection of exclusive, tailor-made experiences, including guided bushwalks, sessions on traditional plant use, and cultural encounters that will bring you closer to the land and its people.

Game drives far away from the crowd

Ewaso Enclave offers the possibility of small-scale game drives in various habitats, such as savannas, “koppies”, forest areas and along the riverbanks. You will not encounter any other safari vehicle along the way! Spot the rare animal species of Northern Kenya, such as the reticulated giraffe, the Grévy’s zebra and the gerenuk. With a bit of luck, you might even come across the rare and shy black leopard. Each ride is guided by experts, whose ancestors have lived in this area for generations.

In action for nature conservation

In Ewaso Enclave, conservation is not a buzzword, it’s a way of life. As a guest, you will participate in the daily activities to monitor the wildlife, such as rangers helping with GPS tracking, drone surveillance, and camera “traps”. From documenting elephant herds to identifying endangered species.

“Singing Wells” or the singing waterputten, an ancient ritual

One of Laikipia’s most special cultural experiences awaits you at the Singing Wells. Here, Maasai warriors dig in dry riverbeds for water for their cattle, while singing to their herds. Each song is unique and each cow responds to the familiar voice of its caretaker. This extraordinary tradition is rarely seen by outsiders and offers an in-depth look at the harmony between people, animals, and land.

Harvest Wild Honey with the Honey Guides

Follow the call of the Honey Guide, a bird that leads people to beehives and experience one of the most fascinating collaborations. You will visit the beehives and learn about the traditional harvesting methods while respecting nature.

Camel Hiking & Fly Camping

Travel through the bush on a camel, due to the scorching heat in the north of Kenya, many shepherds have exchanged their cows for camels. Walk alongside these gentle giants through remote landscapes, then rest in a traditional camel camp or travel on to a mobile camp, or Fly Camp, under the stars.

Fly camping is simple but magical. Fall asleep under the Milky Way, after a meal around sharing with the guides, around the campfire. This adventure brings us back to the basics of our existence, to the things that really matter.

Walk with shepherds, participate in natureconservation

In Ewaso Enclave, traditional cattle farming can continue to exist alongside the thriving ecosystems. Walk with Maasai herders and learn how their rotation system contributes to healthy soil. It prevents overgrazing and promotes biodiversity.

Stargazing age-old models, new perspectives

Study the intriguing “Jewel Box of Africa” the starry sky, without “light pollution”. Sit back and watch the stars unfold above you, recognizing constellations, satellites, and the glittering band of the Milky Way. Guides share Maasai stories of how the stars, the sky, the earth, and life are connected.

Wild Kids of Laikipia

Sidai Camp also offers a perfect family vacation, with multi-day programs designed to educate and inspire young explorers. Children go out with the rangers and Maasai to follow the footprints of animals. They learn survival techniques, make jewelry, and plant trees to promote conservation.

A Hub for Research & Knowledge

In addition to tourism, the Ewaso Enclave offers a dynamic research center. Researchers, students and conservationists from all over the world work closely together here to learn more about the interesting biodiversity of this area. They study the life of wild animals, the ecology of the grasslands, the conflict between the habitat of the animals and humans, ethnobotany and the use of drones in nature conservation.
