More than a hundred million years ago, Madagascar broke away from Africa and became an island. The distance with the mainland turned out to be too great for an exchange of animal and plant species with the mainland in the last forty million years. <\/p>\n

Animal world<\/h3>\n

In this way, the island has been able to develop its own flora and fauna. About eighty percent of the plant and animal species on Madagascar cannot be seen anywhere else! Lemurs for example, these are the prosimians that only occur here. The Ring-tailed lemur is the best known, the Indri the largest and the Aye Aye the most mysterious. The bird world is also unique. <\/p>\n

Although it is close to the African continent, you will not find elephants or other African mammals in Madagascar. It’s not Africa, but it’s not Asia either. It is also called the Eighth Continent because of its own nature and culture. <\/p>\n

Unique Madagascar<\/h3>\n

Madagascar offers Tsingy’s, unique mountain landscapes, tropical rainforests, beautiful lagoon coasts and semi-deserts. The underwater world is fairytale-like. The coral is still intact and in season, humpback whales and whale sharks migrate along the coast. Also interesting is the mix of cultures. The French have brought their culinary culture there; French bread at breakfast and French menus are appreciated by tourists. <\/p>\n

Transport<\/h3>\n

On Madagascar you always travel with a local guide in a 4WD car. Although the government is currently doing its best to renovate the main road from North to South, the RN7, the roads often leave much to be desired. If you want to enjoy this country, you have to take your time. <\/p>\n
